Collagene Expert – for the first signs of ageing

What are the characteristics of the first signs of ageing?

Decreased moisture and dryness
As we age the skin’s ability to retain moisture declines. Sebaceous (oil) glands become less active contributing to an impaired skin barrier and the skin produces less natural moisture actives including Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramides, Squalene and amino acids making it unable to maintain hydration.

Loss of radiance
The skin’s natural cell turnover slows down with age meaning dead skin cells are not shed quickly, leading to a build up on the surface that can make the complexion look dull and lacklustre.

Fine lines and wrinkles
Fine surface lines are usually the first visible signs of ageing often appearing around the eyes and on the forehead. These lines are generally shallow but become more pronounced over time and gradually deepen into visible wrinkles as the years pass. This happens due to the gradual decline in the skin’s production of collagen and elastin, two essential proteins that give skin its structure, smoothness and firmness.

Uneven skin tone and dark spots
Over exposure to UV radiation over time can lead to age spots or hyperpigmentation due to the over production of the pigment in the skin called melanin which forms patches of skin that are darker than your usual skin tone.

Dark circles
The skin around the eyes is much thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face and this makes blood vessels underneath more visible. When the vessels dilate, they can create a bluish tint leading to the appearance of dark circles.
