One day it just happens… there’s no set age, so you don’t know when to expect it and undoubtedly it’ll strike when you least anticipate it. For me, it’s only happened this week. I was working on the gorgeous island of Arran, it was a beautiful day, I was driving and the sun was shining in the car … I had a warm glow on the back of my hands….. And then I noticed it, and it’s fair to say I was a little gob smacked, but, my hands looked OLD!!! It was like I was looking at my mums hands ….no offence Mum, (I’m certain this will get me into trouble!) but it was clear to see I was suffering from a serious case of winter neglect!!

Colder weather demands for more care to one’s moisturization routine. I’m a skin care specialist so I, of all people, should really know better! I’ve spent years training therapists and clients alike on the importance of looking after the skin in the winter months, especially the delicate areas that are prone to suffering more, and the hands are top of the list in that “delicate” category.

Hand cream, however, is one of those beauty product categories that divides opinion. Some people think it's indulgent and unnecessary, while others can't leave home without it. But there are definitely certain times of the year when it becomes a necessity. The skin on your hands is actually really prone to damage, both from the sun and other elements. And just like the rest of our body, hands can show signs of ageing – in fact, they're often the first part of your body that does so.

Just think about it… Our hands are as exposed as our faces and yet we hardly put any thought into skincare or protection for them.  Until, that is, winter hits and they feel dry, rough or chapped, or worse still they look like they’ve aged 10 years or more!!!

Whether you’re dry -skinned or blessed with naturally oily-skin , moisturization in the colder months is mandatory for everyone’s skincare routine. Our hands in particular, get the short end of the stick considering the fact that they are constantly exposed to the elements, not to mention that we do most of our tasks with our hands.. The dry and cold air in the winter months, the consistent washing, using chemicals on a daily basis, (ie household cleaners), even soap, all these factors are drying to the skin. Many of today’s commercial cleansers and hand soaps disrupt skin’s normal integrity, which slows the natural process of skin repair and creates dryness and cracking. This compromises the outer layer of skin, to the extent where it gradually becomes damaged means the hands are more vulnerable to environmental pollutants and UV radiation, which will accelerate the aging of the skin plus speed up the formation of age spots and pigmentation marks.
Thankfully there is a solution, and one that I know works really quickly to restore the condition and the youthfulness of neglected hands!

Why vitamins???
Vitamin A is the only scientifically known element that keeps skin healthy and combats the effects of aging. It has been proven that sufficient vitamin A promotes the effects of the skin’s natural moisturising factor and gives it a radiant glow. Strengthening the effects of the skin’s outer layer to keep it looking firm
Stimulates the production of natural protein to keep skin looking healthy Supporting the effects of skin’s immune system and helps prevent the appearance of breakouts
Vitamin C, is key to the production of collagen, a protein that aids in the growth of cells and blood vessels and gives skin its firmness and strength. Vitamin C also helps create scar tissue and it helps your skin repair itself.
Vitamin E its common knowledge that Vitamin E is good for your skin, but not many people could tell you exactly what this nutrient does -- vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects and repairs your skin. Antioxidants are agents that neutralize the oxidant effect of free radicals, which are molecules that damage collagen and cause skin dryness, fine lines and wrinkles
Vitamin F.  An essential Fatty acid! Fatty acids are as essential to your health as nearly any other vitamin or mineral and can be vital to vibrant healthy skin, they help build skin cells and encourage skin cell growth. This is good for blemishes, scars and this stimulation will also help your skin have a healthy glow as old skin is more quickly sloughed off and replaced with fresh skin. One of the first signs of a lack of vitamin F in your diet is dull, dry skin. Fatty acids play a critical role in keeping your skin moist and elastic, even on the hands.

Add to this mélange of skin enhancing vitamins, Gatineau’s double collagen complex to help plump and regenerate the skin, conditioning agents to lengthen, strengthen and conditions the nails and all in a beautiful non - greasy, and non-oily texture! Noticeably soft silky hands immediately after use….what’s not to love?
Use every day, as often as you feel necessary, but always after washing the hands to keep them supple. Making sure you massage into the cuticles too, as this will condition the nail bed and strengthen the nails.
For a salon style professional treat, use Vitamina in a slightly thicker layer at night to act as a mask on the hands and cover with cotton gloves.  Using hand-treatment products overnight in conjunction with cotton gloves is a short cut to better-looking hands - the build-up of heat helps lotions to penetrate. Trust me, a weekly sleep treat is a must if you want to avoid lizard-like hands and cracking cuticles!

Theses no doubt, our hands work hard, but there’s no need for them to look like they belong on a building site!!!
Think more “JEWELS NOT TOOLS!!!”
Our Vitamina hand cream is available in the March 10th Today's Special Value on QVC. Be sure not to miss it!!
